Keose Glebe – Spring Treeplanting
Around 200 trees have been planted this week, extending the tree-line from the moor road down towards the loch.
This brings the total planted around the village to around 1200, and thankfully almost of these have survived the winter, and are now beginning to bud and to show new growth, despite the cold spring holding things back a little.
The estate have also been awarded a further 420 trees from the Woodland Trust, and these will be delivered for planting later on in the year.
Thank you to the Woodland Trust, the other tree doners, and to the planters and fencers who have made all this possible.
Shoreline Clean-Up
A big thank you to Marine Harvest for their help in supporting the community and tidying up the Keose Glebe coastline in recent days, and particularly that around the bay of Port Eilean Thabhaigh, on the 4th of May.

Village Drainage
Hebridean Housing have started doing some remedial drainage work at the end of the village, and working together with the Keose Glebe Estate and Keose Glebe Grazings, it is hoped that the existing arterial drains and culverts will be cleaned out at the same time.
Keose Glebe Gravestone Clean-up
Work is being done to tidy up and clean up the local graves belonging to former Keose Glebe residents.
It is an on-going project and will be developed as volunteers and the weather allow.

Keose & Glebe Community Association – AGM 2018
This meeting will take place at the Meeting Place, Keose on Friday the 2nd of February at 7pm.
As well as the formal business, there will be an opportunity to hear about the latest developments on the Community Park, together with plans for fundraising and other future events.
Refreshments will also be served.
It is hoped that there will be a good turnout from both villages.
New Keose Glebe Drains in Full Flow
Following the initial clean-up and scrub clearance by village volunteers, and then the cleaning of the drains by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, it is now great to see the drains full of winter snow and rain!
Hopefully, now that this water has somewhere to go, we will have much drier crofts and parks, and there will be less water getting on to the roads themselves.
There are lots more drains to fix and bring back into use, and hopefully some more of these will be tackled in the year ahead.

Estate Managment – Preparing for Winter
Estate Volunteers have been busy going over the Glebe, checking buildings, equipment, trees and boats so that they are made safe and ready for whatever the weather and forthcoming season throws at them.
These are all parts of the activities and responsibilities that come with community land ownership, and just some of skills that we are developing as a community.
Thank you to all the participants who have assisted with this, and especially to Finlay Morrison who tied down our storage container and picnic bench.
Keose Glebe Tree Planting Advances!
The community have been granted a further 420 trees from the Woodland Trust, and on a cold and damp Saturday in November, a bunch of hardy volunteers set out to plant them!!
This involved a whole range of tasks to be undertaken, from the building of the protective fencing, the trenching, the planting, and the tying of canes and plastic coils. [But] with a dedicated team, and each person with their own task, it becomes a process that works well and smoothly, and the trees get planted in best production line order. New Estate Cattle Grid
With financial assistance from Marine Harvest, and in conjunction with Keose Glebe Grazings, the moor road has been further upgraded with the installation of a new cattle grid. (The work being undertaken by AMK).
The old grid was getting to the end of its useful life, and the side walls had begun to fall, or were extremely wobbly. It is great therefore to see the new unit in place, compete with its hedgehog ladder and escape hope.
