After all the fundraising efforts, now the hard work of putting all the equipment together and getting it installed correctly begins. Much thought has been given to how is should be sited, to ensuring safe use, and just to make it fun to use. Any volunteers willing to help in any capacity would be much appreciated.
Around 200 trees have been planted this week, extending the tree-line from the moor road down towards the loch.
This brings the total planted around the village to around 1200, and thankfully almost of these have survived the winter, and are now beginning to bud and to show new growth, despite the cold spring holding things back a little.
The estate have also been awarded a further 420 trees from the Woodland Trust, and these will be delivered for planting later on in the year.
Thank you to the Woodland Trust, the other tree doners, and to the planters and fencers who have made all this possible.
A big thank you to Marine Harvest for their help in supporting the community and tidying up the Keose Glebe coastline in recent days, and particularly that around the bay of Port Eilean Thabhaigh, on the 4th of May.
This will be held at the Keose Glebe Estate Office on Monday 16th April @ 7pm.
This in opportunity to look at what has been achieved in our first two years;
Where we are now;
What is currently being worked on;
To discuss what plans and ideas that you would like to see developed in the future; and
A chance to air any other constructive criticisms that will help us get better.
The Estate belongs to this community, and all the hard work being done is for your behalf, so it is important you attend and show your support and share your views.
All Estate Members (Full and Associate), Keose Glebe Residents, and Crofting Shareholders are welcome.
We very much look forward to seeing you.
Teas and Refreshments will be provided.
Please get in touch if you need assistance with transport.
Following an Estate meeting, Alister Macdonald presented, on behalf of the Keose Glebe community, a cheque for £100 to Councillor Angus Morrison in support of the Lucky2BHere charity who have placed a defibrillator in the village.
Having this valuable lifesaving equipment here is much appreciated, and we would like to thank both Angus and Lucky2BHere for the tireless work they have undertaken in fundraising, locating and maintaining defibrillators in many places across the islands.
This meeting will take place at the Meeting Place, Keose on Friday the 2nd of February at 7pm.
As well as the formal business, there will be an opportunity to hear about the latest developments on the Community Park, together with plans for fundraising and other future events.
Refreshments will also be served.
It is hoped that there will be a good turnout from both villages.
Following the initial clean-up and scrub clearance by village volunteers, and then the cleaning of the drains by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, it is now great to see the drains full of winter snow and rain!
Hopefully, now that this water has somewhere to go, we will have much drier crofts and parks, and there will be less water getting on to the roads themselves.
There are lots more drains to fix and bring back into use, and hopefully some more of these will be tackled in the year ahead.
Thank you again to the volunteers involved, and to CnES for their work.
Members of the Keose Glebe community, together with friends and visitors, gathered for an enjoyable ceilidh, with lots of good food, refreshments, music and banter.
As we come to the end of another year, the Keose Glebe Directors would like to thank everyone in the community, and those friends and agencies who have again played a vital part in our development, for their ongoing help, support and assistance in 2017.
It is all very much appreciated, and very much to the betterment of the community here. Hopefully we will continue in the same positive way in the year ahead.
As a small thank-you, we would like to invite anyone who is around the village on Boxing day, and who would like to stretch their legs and say ‘hello’, to call in to the estate office for a ceilidh (any time after 7pm)
You might perhaps find some mince pies and other offerings awaiting sampling!!
