The Council have now started work on cleaning the roadside drains in the village.
It has been speculated that it is over 30 years since this was last done (happy to be corrected!).
In any case, this long awaited maintenance is being carried out by Duncan Mackay and we hope that it will have a beneficial effect on the adjoining crofts, and will reduce the amount of surface water on or running along the road.

We are delighted to see new business ventures start up here.
Home Maintenance Services recently got into full swing, and we are pleased to hear from Gordon Greenhowe, the man behind it and we wish him every future success.
Gordon writes:
“I had been working for Tesco Maintenance for the past five and a half years. I felt it was time to try something different while keeping involved in maintenance work, which I really enjoy.
My initial plan was to enter the market slowly on a 2 day week while having the security of the Tesco Maintenance job still there.
It soon became clear there was a desperate need for my services on a full time basis, which I went for in December 2016.
It has so far proved to be the right decision with a busy work diary ahead of me.

Following on from our successful Estate launch day (when the sun was shining), and our remembrance of the original families who settled here back in the 1930’s, it has been suggested that it might be an idea to formally record the names of these initial crofters and their wives in relation to currently unnamed landscape features.
While it is likely that every spot on the Glebe was named and known at one time, most of these placenames have now been forgotten, but there are a number of hills, valleys, lochans, pools and other locations that could be ‘re-dedicated’ where the original name is lost…perhaps in a similar style to the ‘Gleann Tharmoid’ (named after Norman Munro who lived there and worked on the estate back in the 19th Century)
Obviously local knowledge of names and places is vital here, and perhaps there are already certain places associated with the people in question. Your thoughts, comments and ideas here would be welcome, as always.

Given the limited facilities currently available locally, the always present chance of wind and rain (even on the best of days), and our dislike of public speaking, we intend this to be a short event – light on speeches, heavier on symbolism, and really just as an excuse for bringing people together.
It will hopefully still be memorable however, as well as being warm and sunny.
This is, after all, our official marking of a historic event – the acquisition of the land by, and for the benefit of, the community here.
What we will ultimately make of that opportunity still remains to be seen [but] as well as celebrating this current moment/achievement, and as well as looking forward together – we also would like to take the opportunity of sharing the day and reminiscing a little with those who were part of that initial settlement of the Glebe over 80 years ago — a few of the people who lived and grew up here in its earliest, formative days.
We will take a short amble, starting from the former gateway where ‘Nead a Sgoil’ meets ‘Port na Carraidh’, past the Meeting House, past the Weigh-Bridge, and finally up to the new Estate Office up the hill (Cnoc an Oifis perhaps?). (See itinerary and map overleaf for further details)
We very much look forward to seeing you—former residents, current Glebe-achs and new and old visitors alike on Saturday.
